Help ensure science guides Great Lakes water policy; a critical moment for Georgian Bay—your help is needed.
Dear GBGLF Supporter,
As 2025 comes to a close, we are reaching out with an urgent request to help protect Georgian Bay’s wetlands—and the ecosystems and communities that depend on them. Thank you to everyone who has already donated. We appreciate your support.
This year, the Georgian Bay Great Lakes Foundation continued to support leading-edge wetland research by Professor Pat Chow-Fraser and her team at McMaster University. Their work highlights both the ecological importance of Georgian Bay’s wetlands and the serious risks they face as Georgian Bay water levels decline.
And our new research by Baird & Associates has confirmed that erosion in the St. Clair River continues and is allowing significantly more water to drain from Lake Huron/Georgian Bay than previously recognized by government agencies. When combined with Environment and Climate Change Canada’s climate-change projections, water levels could fall as much as one metre below the historic 2013 low—with devastating consequences for wetlands, fisheries, and local economies.
We have begun sharing these findings with political leaders in Canada who have expressed real concern. Now, we must ensure that our science reaches the right decision-makers in time to influence policy both in the US and Canada.
We are raising $25,000 to support this critical advocacy work and are currently halfway to our goal. Your support today will help us bring clear, evidence-based findings to government agencies in Canada and the United States.
Donations made online or postmarked by December 31, 2025 will receive a 2025 tax receipt.
Thank you for your continued commitment to Georgian Bay and the Great Lakes.
With sincere appreciation,
Mary Muter
